A fast and sweet success at in less than 100 days is one of the largest independent marketer of renewable energies with an installed and aggregated capacity of 8,000 MW. They provide various services to market renewable energies from direct marketing, energy trading and Power-Purchase-Agreements to renewable energy supply for key accounts. Their virtual powerplant is the digital platform to synchronize energy supply and demand in real-time.

Renewable energy companies need new-age platforms

Our customer used a handful of systems to record the transactions of their dealings as energy marketer: managing power supply/ demand in a central energy data system and handling customer/ vendor relationship management in Excel while a significant part of accounting was outsourced to a service provider using different products of DATEV. Beyond that, Excel was used to track statuses of customer invoices and vendor bills as well as to manually prepare financial and other reports. The Head of Finance & Controlling was aiming for one platform that uses the accounting expertise in-house to increase the efficiency of all accounting processes including regular reporting activities while reducing month-end closing deadlines and establishing clear structures for financial controlling at the same time. Even though, focus was placed on accounting, the team at was also interested to eventually integrate the NetSuite CRM.

Collaborative work with shared responsibilities chose NetSuite in August 2019 as their system of record and Alta Via as their partner to implement the ERP solution for them. We recommended to go with the SuiteSuccess Financial platform, as the targeted Go-Live was set to the end of 2019 to finally pull the plug on their old accounting package at the very beginning of 2020. The NetSuite implementation journey was kicked-off during the first week of September 2019. Alta Via supported in installing all components of SuiteSuccess, enabling features and setting up platform preferences based on the business requirements.

  • Customers, vendors and historical transactions to September 2019 were imported by end of October 2019
  • First full month-end closing process has been completed for the financial period of October 2019

By November 2019, NetSuite already runs as the leading accounting system of, allowing them to discontinue former processes for managing financial transactions in Excel and providing financial data in DATEV by end of the year. Financial budgets for the following three years have been established out of NetSuite and are now set up for future financial controlling in the system. Today, the users are comfortable with the platform when working on their daily business tasks and are supported by individual user dashboards as well as role-specific financial reports.

Looking at this quick turnaround time, the project stakeholders at are planning the next steps to potentially enable NetSuite for their sales team as daily driver. Furthermore, the company is currently in talks to onboard additional group companies and new users to NetSuite.
