My first 3 months working with Alta Via

by Nico Dinkela

Welcome to the team!

From the first day, my colleagues at Alta Via welcomed me openly

As I live in Cologne and work 100% remotely, I was happy to meet most of my colleagues at Alta Via, right at the beginning of our big team-meeting in Berlin. Fortunately, it took place right before the corona shutdown and we were able to spend the first evening together in a restaurant.

Onboarding and first customer projects

I received a good onboarding on the first day and my colleagues helped me at every turn as I took my first steps. My team leaders introduced me to all important processes for my everyday work, like time tracking for our customer projects and document management.

Since I already have prior experience as a software tester, I was able to work with the development team right away and I started testing Alta Via’s travel expense reporting and dunning bundles.

During my stay in Berlin I got the opportunity to meet a customer on-site. My project management introduced me to all project participants and informed me about the scope of this project. Since then I am a permanent member of this project. I work on interfacing between NetSuite and our customer's CRM system.

Variety of tasks.

One thing is clear: working at Alta Via will not become boring any time soon! As a NetSuite consultant at Alta Via my tasks are multifaceted. I have the opportunity to work in a wide variety of areas from the very beginning. I was at customer meetings and held online presentations for customers. The online mode of meeting in particular was exciting for me, as I first had to familiarize myself a bit with the topic of email marketing within NetSuite, before I could present it to our customer. But I received enough support from my team and it went really well.

I also work on a wide variety of internal topics. From testing new features to creating documentation or implementation tasks. I learn more about Alta Via’s customers each passing day - what they want and what they need.

I am convinced of NetSuite!

Before I started at Alta Via, I worked with NetSuite for some time. At my previous employer, I worked on implementing NetSuite in different areas of the company for almost six years. Right from the start, I liked the fact that NetSuite can be used across company departments. Whether it is accounting, sales, e-commerce or customer support - in NetSuite (almost) everything can be done!

Together we grow.

Nico _Teammeeting

Every morning all team members briefly present their plan for their day and enlist topics they want to work on in a standup call. So we always have a good overview of what colleagues are currently working on. A longer weekly review is held on Fridays. Our remote working culture makes it important to exchange information regularly and in detail within the team. My supervisors invited me for a feedback session after a month and a half to discuss the past few weeks. This gave me the feeling that I am on the right path. Whenever someone has a question, my colleagues are there to help.

We learn together in a learning group. Everyone is working on a certification within NetSuite’s Learning Center. The aspiration to improve our personal skills rounds off my positive image of Alta Via as an employer.

I like: Flexible and family-friendly work arrangements

I am working “full-time” from home for the first time in my life. This brings some changes, especially regarding self-organization. Our work model gives me the opportunity to make my day-to-day work much more flexible. This flexibility makes Alta Via a family-friendly employer - I highly appreciate that! Many companies advertise the term “family-friendly”, but do not offer the flexibility that a modern family needs. Alta Via takes this term seriously, and as the father of a small child, it offers me the opportunity to give my family the attention they need and get my work done.
