Your Route to SuiteScript 2.1:
What the New NetSuite Notice Means for Your Account
Berlin/Angelbachtal – 07. Oktober 2026
Many NetSuite users have recently seen a new notice on their dashboard: “Update Needed: Update Scripts to SuiteScript 2.1”. Oracle is retiring SuiteScript 1.0, 2.0, and 2.x in stages, and the first change arrives with the 2027.1 release in early 2027.
Alta Via Consulting supports its customers with a structured script audit and migration service, so every account is on SuiteScript 2.1 in good time and business processes keep running as expected.
What the Notice Means
SuiteScript is the scripting platform behind most NetSuite customizations, from approval workflows to integrations. SuiteScript 2.1 is its current version, and Oracle is now moving all custom scripts onto it. The retirement schedule was published with the NetSuite 2026.2 release.
NetSuite itself updates automatically twice a year. Custom scripts are part of each individual account, so they are converted to 2.1 account by account.
Key Dates
- 2027.1 (early 2027): SuiteScript 1.0 moves to critical-fix-only support. Any other issue with a 1.0 script then means converting it to 2.1 first.
- 2028.1: SuiteScript 2.0 and 2.x scripts run as 2.1 by default. SuiteScript 1.0 scripts can no longer be deployed in new accounts.
- 2028.2: Only SuiteScript 2.1 scripts run.
2028.1 deserves the most attention: from then on, 2.0 and 2.x scripts run on the 2.1 engine automatically. Testing your scripts beforehand makes sure your processes keep working exactly as expected.

Why Almost Every Account Is Affected
Being new to NetSuite is no guarantee that you’re unaffected. Our team has found SuiteScript 1.0 code even in freshly provisioned NetSuite accounts. Legacy code often sits in places most admins wouldn’t check first: bundled customizations, older SuiteApps, and scripts nobody has touched since go-live.
At the same time, not every script needs to be migrated. In many accounts, a good share of scripts is no longer in use: replaced by standard features, tied to processes that no longer exist, or simply forgotten. Retiring them is the fastest migration of all.
A quick first overview is easy to get: open the script list in NetSuite and filter by API version. You will usually see 1.0, 2.0, and 2.1 side by side, often several hundred scripts in total. Which of them still matter, and in what order to migrate them, is what a script audit answers.
Evaluate First, Then Migrate with a Human in the Loop
“If you use NetSuite frequently, you might have noticed this banner on your dashboard. It asks you to update all your scripts to version 2.1 over time, and that’s quite a bit of work. What we intend to do is to team up with you and evaluate your situation first. We bring AI to the table, but you’ll always have a human in the loop. We make sure everything meets our quality standards, and only then do we map out a concrete path to your full migration.”

How We Approach the Upgrade
- Script audit: We list every script in your account, flag what needs converting, and identify scripts you can simply retire. We also check third-party SuiteApps and scripts with special requirements.
- Migration plan: You get a prioritized roadmap with effort estimates, scheduled around your month-end close and busy periods.
- Migration and testing: We convert your scripts to 2.1 with AI-assisted tooling, have our developers review every change, and test everything in a separate testing environment before it goes live. If you don’t have one, we can provide it.
“AI speeds up the mechanical part of a migration, and we use it too. But a script can run without errors and still change a business process: an approval fires at a different time, or an integration misses a field. That’s why every migration we do is reviewed by our developers and tested before it goes live.”

We still have capacity for audits and migrations this year, so your scripts can be on SuiteScript 2.1 before the 2027.1 release.
