NetSuite for SaaS Companies / A DOAG Story

There are several challenges one experiences as a SaaS company. Your pain areas can span over different business processes. How do you offer your products to customers? How do you reflect your sales in your books? We answered these questions in the NetSuite User Days forum organized by DOAG at Nürnberg.

Alta Via shared its experience with NetSuite implementations at SaaS companies. This encompassed the areas of interest for this industry vertically, addressed points to consider, how-to’s, and various solution offerings.

Topics we covered:

  • Quoting / Pricing
  • Contract finalization / Order booking / Subscription management
  • Billing scenarios – usage-based, as per some schedule, flat fee, other such billing topics
  • Revenue management
  • Parallel value of the contract – revenue recognition in different books
  • SaaS metrics – reporting ARR, MRR, churns
  • Capitalizing the software asset / Job costing

We talked about industry-leading practices within NetSuite. We saw how solution architects should drive the business requirements, eventually offering one of 3 different solution options for SaaS implementation projects: leveraging core NetSuite and an external CRM / CPQ, using SuiteBilling, and using a third-party SuiteApp.
